USF football game at Florida in 2015 postponed
USF football's second shot at playing the Florida Gators has been pushed back for a third time, as the two schools now won't meet as scheduled in 2015.
USF athletic director Doug Woolard said Tuesday that the game -- originally announced in 2002 to be played in 2009, then 2011, then 2015, is no longer attached to any year, though the two schools remain contractually bound to play at a later date.
Woolard has shown a preference not to schedule road games for which USF doesn't receive a home date in return -- this year's opener at Notre Dame is the only exception he's signed off on since becoming athletic director in 2004. USF played in Gainesville last fall, leading early but falling 38-14 in September. The Bulls have been a part of home-and-home series with Florida State and Miami, beating the Seminoles in Tallahassee in 2009 and beating the Hurricanes in Miami last year. USF plays FSU in Tampa in 2012 and will continue to play Miami each year through the 2013 season, with home games this fall and in 2013.
The Bulls also are hesitant to schedule too many future games until it's clear how many conference games they'll play as the Big East considers expansion. Starting in 2012, USF will have eight conference games instead of the current seven with the addition of TCU to the Big East lineup. USF might opt to have only one out-of-conference opponent from a BCS conference in the new model, and the Bulls are already scheduled to play at Indiana in 2015.
