USF football newcomers report to campus this week
As the start of football season slowly inches closer and closer, there's an exciting development this week, as USF's incoming recruiting class will report to Tampa for orientation this week with the Summer B semester starting a week from today.
By all indications, there will be zero academic casualties from Skip Holtz's first full recruiting class -- we've reported that Alex Mut, recovering from knee surgery, has agreed to greyshirt and join the Bulls in January, but otherwise, all parties are expected in and eligible for this season.
The Bulls had three arrivals in January -- quarterback Matt Floyd and linebackers Mike Jeune and Antoine Pozniak -- and had offensive lineman Marquis White start classes with the Summer A semester last month. The remaining 17 scholarship newcomers are expected this week, including the only late addition to the class, Florida transfer receiver Chris Dunkley.
By my own scholarship math, I have USF with 86 total scholarships, so there's likely one returning player who actually won't be a returning player, but it's unlikely to be anyone of significance. We also know of four of the preferred walk-ons expected to report this week as well -- punter/kicker Mattias Ciabatti of Hillsborough, offensive lineman Mak Djulbegovic of Carrollwood Day School, offensive lineman Michael York of Plant City and offensive lineman Cole Ungerer of Riverview. We should have more walk-on names before too long ...
