USF golfer Yang to compete at NCAA regional
One sport we've neglected here on the blog is women's golf, where USF finished second in the Big East championships in Palm Harbor last week, led by freshman phenom Shena Yang.
Yang learned Monday that she has earned a spot in the NCAA regional, one of three leading up to the NCAA championships. She'll compete on May 6-8 at Ironwood Golf & Country Club in Greenville, N.C. -- I'll nominate Skip Holtz if she needs a caddy who knows the course well. There are 24 teams and three individuals in the regional, and the top eight teams and the top two individuals not on those teams advance to the NCAA field, which is May 18-21 at Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
Yang, a Wharton graduate, shot a three-round 226 to tie for second individually in the Big East tournament. She won the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational this year, and led the Bulls with an average score of 73.97, ranking 56th nationally according to Golfstat.com.
