USF kicker Bonani released from hospital
USF sophomore kicker Maikon Bonani has been released from St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, five days after he injured his back in a 35-foot fall from the SkyRide while working at Busch Gardens.
Bonani, who has politely declined all interview requests through USF's sports information department, is expected to face 6 to 8 weeks of recovery as he wears a back brace to help heal a cracked 12th thoracic vertebra. USF opens preseason practice Aug. 5, but the Bull don't have their first Big East game until Oct. 3 at Syracuse.
USF coach Jim Leavitt wrote about Bonani on his page at Twitter.com, saying: "MB came by the office today and looks great. He will just rest the next few weeks and see he is after that. Great to see him."
