USF men's hoops picked 8th in Big East by media
USF men's basketball, which finished last season in a three-way tie for fourth in the Big East standings, has been picked to finish eighth in the conference in a preseason vote of league media members published by Syracuse.com.
An eighth-place finish in the Big East would put USF in strong consideration for a return trip to the NCAA Tournament, after the Bulls played there for the first time in 20 years in 2012, winning their first two games. USF was also picked to make the NCAA field in the initial preseason projections by CBS analyst Jerry Palm, who had the Bulls as a No. 11 seed.
Here's the preseason picks, taken from one media member covering each of the league's 15 teams.
1. Louisville 15 (15 1st-place votes)
2. Syracuse 33
3. Notre Dame 49
4. Cincinnati 63
5. Pittsburgh 78
6. Georgetown 97
7. Marquette 109
8. South Florida 123
9. Connecticut 159
10. St. John's 163
11. Rutgers 167
12. Villanova 171
13. Providence 176
14. Seton Hall 188
15. DePaul 209
I had USF's vote in the media poll, and the Times requires its writers to fully disclose any ballots, so here are my picks from 1 to 15 -- actually matched the aggregrate rankings for the top six: 1. Louisville, 2. Syracuse, 3. Notre Dame, 4. Cincinnati, 5. Pittsburgh, 6. Georgetown, 7. USF, 8. UConn, 9. Marquette, 10. Providence, 11. Rutgers, 12. Villanova, 13. St. John's, 14. DePaul, 15.
