USF men's hoops picked to finish 14th in Big East
We'll have our live chat going here at 12:30, but first, some quick news from New York, where Stan Heath is representing USF at the Big East men's basketball media day. The Bulls have been picked to finish 14th out of 16 teams in a preseason vote of league coaches, edging out Providence and DePaul at the bottom of the league standings.
Heath obviously thinks he has a team capable of finishing much higher -- the Bulls have finished in the bottom three in the league standings every year but once, when Dominique Jones led USF to a 9-9 record and ninth-place finish in 2009-10. Here's the full release from the Big East -- Connecticut and Syracuse tied for first in total points, with the Huskies getting seven first-place votes to the Orange's five.
Senior forward Augustus Gilchrist wasn't among six Big East players on the preseason all-conference first team nor among the five on the second team, but he was named among five players earning honorable mentions, putting him among the top 16 players in the league by the coaches' opinions.
USF also finished 14th in the preseason Big East beat writers' poll, which was put together by the Syracuse Post-Standard.
