Times correspondent Kerry Klecic covered Sunday's USF men's soccer game against Notre Dame. Here's his story, as well as his picture, left, of USF's Hasani Sinclair celebrating his first college goal.

TAMPA — USF looked on its way to another draw this weekend, but senior Jorge Mora saved the No. 5 Bulls (5-0-1) with a late header to give them a 2-1 victory over No. 20 Notre Dame at the USF Soccer Stadium on Sunday.

With the game knotted in the 84th minute, sophomore Bernardo Anor sent a cross into the box that found Mora, who headed it past Notre Dame keeper Philip Tuttle on the far side.

“Bernardo got a touch by the defender and served a great ball,” Mora said. “I actually had a second or two and I wasn’t sure if I was going to bring it down.  I just decided to put my head on it and I got enough power.”

Notre Dame had equalized only moments earlier in the 77th on an uncontested header by senior Bright Dike, who was positioned perfectly in the box for sophomore Michael Rose’s cross.

The Bulls controlled most of the game after an early goal, allowing only one good Irish opportunity in the first 60 minutes, a strike by junior Steven Perry that was saved well by USF keeper Jeff Attinella.

However, the Irish had more possession and shots in the game. USF coach George Kiefer said the Bulls lacked energy

“It was a Sunday game — we hate them … It’s just tough to play in this humidity,” he said. “I think that made it lethargic.”

However, Kiefer said he was happy that the team responded after Notre Dame equalized in the second half. On Friday night, USF tied Marquette 1-1 after taking an early lead.

USF freshman Hasani Sinclair, named the 2008 Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, opened his scoring account this season on a header in the 5th minute. USF extends its home unbeaten to 22 games with the win.
