USF men's soccer picked 2nd in division; women 4th

Soccer season is officially underway at USF -- the women's team played part of an exhibition Tuesday before it was rained out, and they're playing again Friday at Clemson -- and the first nuggets of note are how the Bulls are showing up in the Big East preseason polls.

USF's men's team was picked to finish second in its division --behind consensus division champ Louisville. Here's how under the radar the Bulls are entering the season -- not one USF player was named to the league's 12-man All-Big East preseason team.

The Bulls face Louisville on the road this season -- remember Oct. 18 for that -- and they won't face the teams picked 1-2 in the "Blue" division, Connecticut and Notre Dame, with a trip scheduled to third-place West Virginia on Sept. 25 as the Bulls' conference opener. USF has five of its nine conference games at home at brand-new Corbett Soccer Stadium, which will be opened later this month.

We're a few days late with this, but USF's women's team was picked fourth in its division -- after finishing third last season. Of the three teams picked ahead of USF -- West Virginia, Marquette and Connecticut -- the Bulls get the Mountaineers and Huskies at home, finishing the regular season in potentially chilly Milwaukee on Oct. 22.

While we're talking USF women's soccer, the Bulls added another three transfers from the SEC, all with local ties. Countryside's Kendall Narum, who played one season at LSU, has joined the team for this fall, having been ranked as the state's No. 9 recruit last year by And Denise Schilte-Brown has landed two more transfers from Florida (Kayla Bala joined the team in January) in sophomore defender Mary-Ann Krlin (from Largo, scored 1 goal in 2 games before leaving Florida's team in September) and junior forward Marsha Harper, who is from Colorado but played with the Tampa Bay Hellenic in summer 2010.
