USF moves up again in Directors' Cup standings

For the second year in a row, USF has moved up the ranks in the Directors' Cup all-sport standings, with the Bulls rising 19 spots to rank 86th in the annual measure of schools' success in the NCAA postseason.

USF had six teams score points in the Cup standings -- women's soccer led the way with 50 points for reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament, just ahead of football, which earned 45 points as a bowl winner. Also scoring for the Bulls were women's track and field (32 points), men's track and field (31), women's tennis (25) and men's soccer (25).

USF has made considerable progress in the past two years, going from 116th to 105th to its current standing at 85th. The Bulls have also moved up from 12th in the Big East two years ago to 10th last year and now eighth. The score is also good for fifth out of the Big East's eight football schools, ahead of Pittsburgh (123th), Cincinnati (150th) and Rutgers (158th). For the second year in a row, USF still ranks fifth-worst out of the 66 BCS football programs, ahead of only those three Big East schools and Washington State.

Within the state, USF saw Central Florida jump ahead -- Florida finished fourth, Florida State ninth and Miami 51st. UCF, which had been 106th last year, finished 63rd, with Florida International next after USF at No. 141. Your final Big East rankings: Notre Dame 18, Louisville 34, West Virginia 40, Connecticut 44, Villanova 50, Georgetown 55, Syracuse 61, USF 86, St. John's 94, Marquette 96, Providence 113, Pittsburgh 123, DePaul 140, Cincinnati 150, Rutgers 158 and Seton Hall 238.
