USF to open '08 with Tennessee-Martin

Lots to get to today, especially basketball Tuesday night, but wanted to post a note we had in Wednesday's paper:

USF will open its 2008 season at home against Division I-AA Tennessee-Martin on Aug. 30 at Raymond James Stadium.

UTM has agreed to a one-game contract with the Bulls, Skyhawks sports information director Joe Lofaro said Monday night. The Bulls have now completed their schedules through the 2008 season. USF opens next season against another I-AA team, Elon. UTM will be paid $300,000 to come to Tampa.

UTM is 9-2 this season and opens the I-AA playoffs this week at Southern Illinois. The Skyhawks opened this season at Ohio and play a guarantee game at Southern Miss in 2007. UTM's defense is ranked in the top five in I-AA, with a rushing offense that ranks in the nation's top 10.
