USF-Pittsburgh: Greetings from Heinz Field
Big-time fork-in-the-road game for USF in an hour or so, as a win keeps them in the Big East hunt, needing a Cincinnati loss to get back into the thick of things, while a loss realistically takes them out of contention for the conference crown.
There's a fair amount of buildup here in Pittsburgh, where a win would give the Panthers their first 7-1 start since Dan Marino's last year on campus in 1982. Pitt's 3-0, but they haven't faced any of the league's top teams yet, with West Virginia and Cincinnati still looming in the last two weeks of the schedule. Radio folks here are dreaming of Pitt and Cincy running the table to set up a Big East championship game of sorts here on Dec. 5.
USF, of course, can throw things off by getting a road win here as they did two years ago in a wild 48-37 game. And don't underestimate a level of revenge factor for Pitt handing the Bulls their first loss last year in Tampa. Lots more to come, so keep checking back ...
