USF signees Waldrop, Ryan go in 12th round
It might have taken perhaps longer than expected, which could be good for USF coach Lelo Prado, but two Bulls signees, outfielder Kyle Waldrop and left-handed pitcher Kyle Ryan, were selected in the 12th round of the major-league baseball draft Tuesday.
Ryan, of Fort Myers Riverdale High, was selected by the Cincinnati Reds, and six picks later, Ryan, an Auburndale High graduate, was picked by the Detroit Tigers. They'll have to decide in the next two months if they'll stick with their commitment to play at USF, or sign a pro contract. The Bulls could still be competing with a six-figure signing bonus -- according to Baseball America, the Rays paid their 12th-pound pick last year a $100,000 bonus.
