USF soccer draws 1,440, wins in stadium opener

Big crowd on Tuesday night for the grand opening of new Corbett Soccer Stadium -- despite a rain delay, a crowd of 1,440 (including 900 students) saw USF's men's soccer earn a 2-1 exhibition win against the University of Tampa.

The first official match in the new stadium will be the USF women's team, which opens its season Friday at home against Indiana, with USF's men getting their first home match Sept. 2 against Georgia State after opening the season Saturday at Wake Forest.

Last spring saw considerable rises in average attendance as the Bulls opened new stadiums for baseball and softball, and the same may be true for soccer this fall. For the full story on Tuesday's big opener, check out Tom Zebold's story and some great video highlights on USF's official site.
