USF softball off to 17-4 start after 1-hitter
USF softball threw a 1-hitter on Friday in a 2-0 win against Virginia Tech, improving the Bulls to 17-4 this season, just one game off their all-time best record after 21 games.
The only better start in Bulls history was the 1997 team, which opened 18-3 in Ken Eriksen's first season as head coach. The Bulls have a chance to challenge some of their best starts -- 23-4 in 2003, 26-5 in 2004. Both of those teams, much like the '97 Bulls, made the NCAA Regionals, something USF hasn't done since 2008.
The Bulls have made considerable progress from a year ago, when they were 11-10 after 21 games on the way to a 33-21 final record. USF plays in Clearwater on Saturday at the Eddie Moore Complex, facing Central Connecticut at 4:15 p.m.
