USF softball knocks off No. 4 Florida, 4-1
USF softball picked up a huge win Wednesday night, as the No. 21 Bulls held on for a 4-1 win at No. 4 Florida, getting clutch hitting for an early lead and then a complete-game victory from sophomore Sara Nevins.
USF (30-5) led 2-0 in the first after a sacrifice fly by Kourtney Salvarola and a two-out RBI single by Janine Richardson. The Bulls added two more on an infield error and another sacrifice fly, and Nevins pitched herself out of late-inning jams. She got two strikeouts in the seventh inning, ending the game with the tying run at the plate for the Gators (29-3).
The Bulls have now won 10 games in a row and 15 of their last 16 -- Wednesday's win ended a 12-game losing streak for USF in the series with Florida, and also ended the Gators' 16-game home winning streak. Wednesday's game was actually USF's first road game of the season, with the first 34 all played either at USF or in tournaments hosted by the Bulls in Clearwater. After a 3-0 start in Big East play, the Bulls have a three-game series this weekend at Pittsburgh (16-13), which was swept by Louisville last weekend.
