USF women advance to WNIT third round
USF women's basketball is making a strong postseason run of its own, beating Florida International 77-61 on Saturday night to advance to the third round of the Women's NIT.
The Bulls (19-15) had strong scoring balance, with guards Jasmine Wynne and Andrell Smith leading the way with 15 points each and significant contributions from the bench, like center Akila McDonald going 3-for-3 for 8 points and 12 rebounds in just 16 minutes.
USF jumped out to 25-14 lead with a 14-4 first-half run, and the Bulls led by as many as 22 at 53-31 with 13 minutes remaining. FIU cut the lead to 11, but that's as close as the Panthers would get, despite 30 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four blocks from St. Petersburg Catholic alum Jerica Coley.
USF now waits to play the winner of Sunday's game between James Madison and Wake Forest.
