USF's women's basketball team now has a date and opponent for the third round of the Women's NIT: The Bulls will host Mississippi on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Sun Dome.

Ole Miss advanced by easily beating Murray State on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls (23-10) are in the Sweet 16 of the NIT, matching their deepest run in four previous appearances. USF is 3-0 on its home court in the postseason, but 0-5 away from the Sun Dome, so the Bulls can only hope that trends continues Thursday.

-- Not the best day for the Big East in the women's NCAA Tournament, as three league teams -- seventh-seeded DePaul and Notre Dame and eighth-seeded Villanova -- have been upset in the opening round. We mentioned that USF's absence from the tournament might have been partly from a natural hesitance to give one conference eight NCAA bids, as the Big East has had in the previous two tournaments.

Connecticut, Rutgers and Pittsburgh are still alive, and Louisville should win easily tonight, but the league's reputation for depth will take a hit -- there have been just six upsets in the opening round so far, and the Big East has lost in half of those.

-- USF baseball completed a three-game sweep of Rutgers, just the third league sweep since the Bulls started Big East play in 2006. After Sunday's 10-5 win, USF piled up 31 runs and a ridiculous 46 hits in three games -- two more hits and two more RBIs for Ryan Lockwood, and another three RBIs for Todd Brazeal. Sunday brought a good turn from the bullpen as Shawn Sanford, back in his old role as closer, pitched a perfect final five outs for his second save of the season.
