USF women lose home finale to DePaul

USF's women's basketball team, hoping to send three seniors out on a high note in their final regular-season home game, took a 75-61 loss to DePaul in the Sun Dome on Monday night.

The Bulls (15-14, 6-10) will now have the No. 11 seed in this weekend's Big East tournament in Hartford, with an opening-round game against 14th-seeded Cincinnati. Win there, and they'll face sixth-seeded Rutgers in Saturday's second round.

DePaul (20-10, 9-7) got 23 points from forward Keisha Hampton, who had four of the Blue Demons' 10 3-pointers. The Bulls got 11 points and 13 rebounds for another double-double from senior center Jessica Lawson, with junior guard Leondra Doomes-Stephens scoring a team-best 17 points and freshman Tiffany Conner setting a season high with 10 points off the bench.

There was good news, however, as the Bulls picked up their second 2011 commitment in the past week -- Tamara Taylor, a 5-foot-9 guard who helped Boca Ciega to the state championship game last week, accepted an offer to play for the Bulls starting in 2011-12.

Taylor, who averaged 21 points as a junior after making second-team all-state as a sophomore, watched Monday's game from behind the bench with Boca Ciega coach Will White. She'll be the first Pinellas County graduate to play for the Bulls since Jose Fernandez took over as head coach in 2000.
