USF women to sign 6-4 Australian center
Today is the start of the fall signing period for most sports, and USF's women's basketball team has another addition to its 2011 recruiting class, as Caitlin Rowe, a 6-foot-4 center from Canberra, Australia, will sign with the Bulls today.
Rowe is playing this season at Gulf Coast Community College, the same school that sent twins Andrea and Andrell Smith to USF this fall. Rowe played sparingly on a junior college national championship squad last season, averaging 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Coach Roonie Scovell said Wednesday that Rowe "shoots well and runs the floor well" -- she's the fifth Gulf Coast player to sign with USF in the last three years, joining guard Janae Stokes and Alexis Givands in spring 2008.
Rowe will join two previous commitments -- guard Tamara Taylor of Boca Ciega and point guard Shalethia Stringfield of Jacksonville.
USF's men's team is expected to sign its two commitments, centers Andre Jackson and Tololupe "Jordan" Omogbehin.
