USF women's hoops headed to Alaska, Daytona
USF's women's basketball schedule for 2011-12 is coming together, and as was the case last year, some of the Bulls' toughest nonconference games will come in early-season tournaments.
The Bulls will open the season with a three-game tip-off tournament in Daytona Beach, with Arkansas and Minnesota among the opponents scheduled for the tournament. There's a little more travel involved for USF's Thanksgiving-weekend games -- the Bulls will be playing in Anchorage, Alaska, with in-state rival Miami among the games there. The Hurricanes are 27-4 this season and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which starts Saturday.
USF also has a return trip to Auburn scheduled, though with the Sun Dome expected to be unavailable in November due to major renovations, the Bulls have rescheduled a pair of return games in Tampa against Nebraska and Middle Tennessee State for the 2012-13 season, when they know they can be played in the Sun Dome.
Much of the remainder of USF's schedule is likely to be in-state home games against teams like North Florida, Jacksonville, Stetson and so on. Jose Fernandez should have all but two players returning from this year's team, which finished a disappointing 12-19 and missed the postseason for the first time since joining the Big East in 2005.
