USF women's hoops makes 4 signings official

We've known the four women's basketball recruits signing with USF and coach Jose Fernandez for the past week, but USF made its 2012 recruiting class official on Wednesday, announcing the signing of three Georgia high school stars -- guards Shavontae Naylor and Courtney Williams and forward Alisia Jenkins -- and point guard Laura Marcos Canedo of Spain.

"All these kids fit what we do and fit the way we play," said Fernandez, who has one more scholarship available for the spring signing period.

While we're talking women's basketball, we should mention that the Bulls improved to 2-2 with a 76-41 win Tuesday night against North Florida in the home opener at the USF Rec Center. Kaneisha Saunders had 14 points to lead the Bulls, who play at home again Thursday against Bethune-Cookman.

Don't think we linked to it last week when USF announced its men's signings -- again, we knew who was coming in for the Bulls, but the announcement is the first time you can hear what Stan Heath has to say about his three incoming players. If you're scoring at home, USF basketball will have a Lavonte, Shavontae and JaVontae all playing next season. ...
