USF women's tennis goes for Big East crown today

USF women's tennis goes for the Bulls' first Big East championship of the year this morning, facing Notre Dame on its home courts in the finals of the conference tournament.

The Bulls earned a 5-2 victory against Notre Dame in Tampa in March and have played well in the Big East tournament, earning a 4-1 win against Syracuse and a 4-0 sweep of DePaul to reach the finals. USF's regular-season upset of the Fighting Irish saw the Bulls' top two singles players, Irene Rehberger and Ecaterina Vasenina, upset higher-ranked opponents.

It's the third time in six years that USF and Notre Dame have met for the Big East women's tennis crown -- the Bulls won USF's first Big East crown in 2007 in Tampa, beating Notre Dame, and the Bulls lost to the Fighting Irish in the championship matches in 2006 and 2008.
