USF's Chuck Hernandez discusses pine tar issue



In the aftermath of the controversy stemming from Tuesday night's ejection of Rays pitcher Joel Peralta after he was found to have pine tar on his glove, we sought out USF pitching coach Chuck Hernandez, who has 31 years of pro baseball experience and spoke at length about why pitchers use pine tar and whether it should be scrutinized.


Here's what Hernandez had to say -- he has a great perspective on the issue, having been Detroit's pitching coach when veteran Kenny Rogers drew similar controversy during the 2006 World Series.
