USF forward Augustus Gilchrist hasn't made any public comments about his future since the Big East tournament, but he talked about cautiously testing the waters of the NBA Draft in a story posted Thursday at Hoopsworld.com.

There are a few nuggets of news in the story -- first, that Gilchrist is on course to graduate this summer, and that he is only likely to enter the NBA Draft if he has good reason to think he'll be a first-round draft pick. That's very much the same criteria that guard Dominique Jones had in mind when he decided to enter last year's draft, and he was selected late in the first round. Gilchrist said if he's told he'll only be a second-round pick (likely without a guaranteed contract) or that he's unlikely to be drafted, he'll withdraw his name and return to USF.

Gilchrist's graduation could actually work to keep him at USF, as he told the site that he would have more time for basketball at USF next year because he wouldn't have to carry as heavy a courseload. Gilchrist has not shown up as a likely draft pick in ESPN's draft database, and he'll have a small window to try to change that between the deadline for underclassmen to declare and the May 8 deadline for underclassmen to withdraw their names and stay in school.

Because the NBA won't allow teams to conduct workouts that would cause an underclassmen to miss college classes, Gilchrist's pro workouts would likely be limited to two weekends -- April 30-31 and May 6-7.

Gilchrist attended USF's postseason basketball banquet on Monday night with his friend and trainer, Terrelle Woody, who is now in Dallas this week working with Jones as he continues his rehab on a foot injury as his rookie season with the Mavericks wraps up.
