USF's Sanford, Manz, three signees drafted
UPDATE: Senior catcher Trey Manz has been drafted in the 26th round by the Reds, and USF signee Chase Greene was picked by the Mets in the 16th round.
I've been in a meeting in downtown Tampa for the last hour and a half, but the baseball draft has continued, with Bulls junior right-hander Shawn Sanford going in the 13rd round to the Giants and signee Chad Taylor going later in the same round to the Cubs.
Another signee, Tampa Jesuit shortstop Nick Lockwood, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round Wednesday. Lockwood is the brother of USF outfielder Ryan Lockwood, who is also draft-eligible this week. The Times' Ed Encina spoke with Nick Lockwood today and here's the story.
All three have until Aug. 15 to decide whether to sign a pro contract or start school at USF.
