Volleyball loses at Pitt, misses Big East tournament

USF volleyball will miss the Big East tournament for the first time since the Bulls' first year in the conference, missing out on the final spot in the eight-team field with a loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The Bulls (11-16, 7-7) finished with a better conference record than a year ago, when they were the tournament's eighth seed, but they finished tied for eighth in the standings with Pittsburgh, which took the final berth with the head-to-head advantage. USF, which has just two seniors in its regular rotation, finishes the season at home Wednesday against Florida A&M.

USF coach Claire Lessinger earned her 100th career win Saturday at West Virginia, becoming the fourth Bulls head coach to reach the milestone. USF is 100-127 in her eight seasons and 50-61 in Big East play.
