Watch List Watch List: Allen gets Thorpe nod
I'll admit, this time of year, the Watch List Watch List posts are a little formulaic, a little like Mad Libs.
(USF player) has been named to the watch list for the (legendary player) Award, which honors the best (sometimes obscure combination of positions) in college football. He's one of (entirely too large number) players on the list, including (smaller number) from the Big East and (another smaller number) from a program in Florida.
Today's answers? 1. Safety Nate Allen. 2. Thorpe. 3. Defensive back. 4. Only 40, commendably frugal. 5. Four. (Cincinnati's Mike Mickens and DeAngelo Smith and Rutgers' Courtney Greene). 6. Five. (Florida State's Myron Rolle, Central Florida's Joe Burnett, Florida Atlantic's Tavious Polo and Corey Small).
The official Thorpe site hasn't been updated, but there's a full list here, and I don't think the folks at Hokiesports.com are bored enough to contrive an entire watch list of 40 defensive backs. Then again, there are two FAU guys ...
Oh, and a funny link to the Orlando Sentinel's Andrew Carter, who rips on Tennessee's new contract with Phil Fulmer, which extends his contract one year for each eight-win season. He suggests that "each time UCF loses by 14 points or less to USF, Knights coach George O'Leary receives a three-year extension and a pat on the back and smile from UCF AD Keith Tribble." There's a Jenn Sterger reference in there, too, and no, I'm not saying that just for the traffic spike.
