Watch List Watch List! Bonani on Groza radar
Surely, you remember the Watch List Watch List, right? Back in the heyday of USF's award-consideration boom, there might have been a half-dozen Selvies and Allens and such popping up on national award lists.
In recent years, there's been less to watch with USF football, but the 2012 season has its first official watch, with Bulls senior kicker Maikon Bonani among 30 players named to the preseason list for the Lou Groza Award, given to the nation's top kicker. Bonani went 19-for-26 last season and we actually sat down with him Tuesday for a feature slated for Sunday's Times.
(Side note: Downright frightening to see that I wrote a nearly identical post last summer -- complete with IDENTICAL headline -- when Bonani made the Groza list last year. Very, very Groundhog Day. I am going to go cry now.)
We also had a chance Wednesday morning for good conversations with Todd Fitch, Jerome Pathon and Kevin Patrick -- these late-summer interviews are great to get a better sense of expectations at each position going into preseason camp. We'll have lots of notes in the next few days from those talks, building up to Big East media day on July 31, now less than three weeks off.
