USF football's latest commitment is perhaps the most intriguing in the Bulls' Class of 2012: Guito Ervilus, a versatile athlete from Orlando Oak Ridge who has played just two years of football.

Ervilus, 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, committed to the Bulls after an official visit this weekend, according to Oak Ridge coach Elijah Williams, who played running back at Florida under Carl Franks 15 years ago.

USF initially recruited Ervilus (the first name has a hard G, so it's GEE-to, and it's URR-vah-lous; his family is from Haiti) as a tight end, and he played just about everywhere for Oak Ridge -- tight end, defensive end, receiver, safety, running back -- but Williams said he'll get his first look at USF as a defensive end.

"Everybody in the room wanted him. The DE coach won," Williams said, noting that offensive coordinator Todd Fitch recruited him, with defensive line coaches Kevin Patrick and Vernon Hargreaves making visits to Orlando as well. "He could end up anywhere."

Williams' recruitment is all over the place -- Williams said he was set to go to North Carolina and had told all the in-state suitors he was going there, but backed off when interim coach Everett Withers wasn't retained. He mentioned UNC, Kentucky, Miami and Florida State among the top schools that recruited Ervilus, noting that Ohio State was interested in him as a linebacker and that Florida International had made a late push. Rivals rates him with three stars, Scout two.

"He was a basketball kid, but I always think basketball kids make good football players -- good hand-eye coordination because they're always catching the ball," Williams said.

Ervilus continues a strong USF showing in the Orlando area, having already landed Olympia defensive tackle James Hamilton as an early enrollee and Winter Park receiver Dvario Montgomery as a commitment. USF lost out on its top remaining quarterback target Sunday when McDonough (Ga) standout Chris Moody committed to Vanderbilt after an official visit.
