White-out indeed in Morgantown ...



Three hours before kickoff, there's a steady snow falling on the field here at Milan Puskar Stadium, where temperatures are right around 28 degrees. This will make for the coldest game in USF football history.

The snow on the field isn't so thick you can't see yard markers, but it's taking tonight's "Whiteout" promotion a bit literally. USF certainly isn't used to snow, but West Virginia's players aren't familiar with it either -- the last time the Mountaineers had snow on the field for a game here was against Pittsburgh in December 2005.

There's a really neat tribute to West Virginia senior quarterback Pat White at midfield -- two people have been walking back and forth, wearing a carefully carved path in the snow -- half the width of the field and 15 yards wide -- with a gigantic No. 5 cleared. It's like Zamboni art. I'm thinking ESPN2 opens their shot for tonight's game with a shot of that number ...

The end zone video screen is showing the SEC Championship game to an empty stadium -- should still be at least 90 minutes before they let fans in ... Pitt's 34-10 win against Connecticut sends the Panthers to the Sun Bowl in El Paso, and sets up West Virginia for the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte. ... By the way, East Carolina's 27-24 upset at Tulsa in the Conference USA Championship game all but locks up Memphis on the other side of the St. Petersburg Bowl.

And USF's men's soccer team, playing in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament, has likely seen its season end today. The Bulls are down 4-0 at halftime at top-ranked Wake Forest, the defending national champions ...
