Whittaker, Clebert help Spokane to Arena title
Former USF football players Huey Whittaker and Richard Clebert helped the Spokane Shock to a 69-57 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm in Friday night's ArenaBowl.
Whittaker had four touchdown catches and was named Ironman of the Game, and Clebert recovered a key fumble from the Storm. Two more former Bulls played for the Storm, with receiver DeAndrew Rubin and fullback Terrence Royal scoring back-to-back touchdowns in the second quarter to give Tampa Bay a brief lead.
The question now is whether the former Bulls can earn a spot in an NFL training camp -- Whittaker was with the Jets this spring, and Clebert is also hopeful of getting a look, recently Tweeting about the possibility of playing 40 games between the two seasons if he's fortunate enough to make an NFL roster.
Speaking of Bulls in pro football, Matt Grothe has more competition with the UFL's Florida Tuskers, who re-signed Arena veteran Chris Greisen, who was the league's Offensive Player of the Year after throwing a league-high 107 touchdown passes in 2010. Greisen was Brooks Bollinger's top backup with the Tuskers last season.
