Wilson, Daniels highlight USF award winners

USF held its annual football banquet on Friday night -- I've gone in past years, but had something else so wasn't able to go this time. I can share a link to USF's official site, which has a full rundown of all the team's awards for the season.

Impressive to see defensive end Julius Forte pick up some hardware for his efforts while redshirting this year -- USF's coaches never want to bring up individuals from the redshirting class, so it's a rare chance to see which players have impressed them the most ...

-- Is it bad karma to turn down Jim Leavitt? Two of the defensive coaches who declined opportunities to join Leavitt's staff have had rough Decembers. Georgia's John Jancek was fired, and Illinois' Dan Disch has been stripped of his co-coordinator title and demoted to being just a position coach. And speaking of defensive coaches, Mark Stoops, part of Leavitt's USF staff in 1996 before the Bulls played a game, is the new defensive coordinator at Florida State.

-- Another milestone comment: Congrats to Ken for comment number 45,000 on this blog. I'll have to think of something to give away to big No. 50,000, which should be coming sometime this spring (or, if I dare post another St. Pete Bowl update, sometime Monday). We hit 40,000 on Oct. 18, so you guys averaged about 90 comments a day since then ... We've had more than 20,000 comments in 2009 alone. Thanks again for all the conversation on this blog.
