USF's women's basketball team has opened Big East play 0-2 after taking a 63-51 loss at St. John's on Tuesday night.

USF (10-4, 0-2) cut a 19-point second-half deficit to four points on a 3-pointer by Shantia Grace with 4:50 to play, but that's as close as the Bulls would get. USF trailed 53-49 with two minutes to play, but St. John's scored the next eight points to put the game away.

Grace led the Bulls with 16 points but did so on 5-of-16 shooting. Center Brittany Denson had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, but no USF player that attempted more than one shot hit so much as 50 percent from the field, and the Bulls hit 30.6 percent as a team.

The Bulls will try to end a three-game losing streak when they return home to face Syracuse in the Sun Dome on Saturday, with another home date Tuesday against Providence.
