Yes, it's time to honor a true USF pioneer

Our colleagues at the Orlando Sentinel have a note in Thursday's paper that Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder wore a brace on his left knee at Wednesday's practice, four days after the Seminoles got a 54-28 win at then-No. 7 BYU.

"He was pretty beat up after that last game. Just sore – his body was sore, you know it,” FSU coach Bobby Bowden told the Sentinel's Andrew Carter. “He was much more frisky today than he was yesterday.”

Ponder is a threat to run as well as pass, and when Bowden was asked if he's less likely to run Saturday against USF because of his knee, he said "he runs so much when a play breaks down, that’s kind of up to him.”

-- Count the New York Post among those picking a USF upset victory Saturday. "Matt Grothe or no Matt Grothe, the Bulls have been waiting for this game a long time," they write. "Something tells us their defense will show up."
