At the dawn of the weekend, the odds of USF hosting the American Athletic Conference title game seemed about as remote as Navy's chances of beating Houston with a backup quarterback.

Ahem.

Navy's 46-40 upset of sixth-ranked Houston -- behind Newsome High alumnus Will Worth's 191 total yards -- enhanced the odds of the championship being staged at Raymond James Stadium. The Dec. 3 contest is held at the home venue of the division champion with the best record in conference games.

All USF (5-1, 2-0 AAC) must do now is win its final six games, which includes an Oct. 28 home game against the Midshipmen.

If USF loses to Navy (a West Division team), it still can win the East, but would need at least two Midshipmen defeats in conference play to host. League guidelines state if the two division champs have the same conference record, the winner of the regular season head-to-head meeting would host the title game.
