Courtney Williams climbing the charts
Senior All-America candidate Courtney Williams' surge up USF's career scoring charts now has reached thin-air altitudes.
Williams, who scored 31 in Wednesday night's 71-67 victory at Tulane, now has 1,874 career points, good enough for sole possession of third place on the Bulls' career list. With a minimum 15 games remaining, she needs only 68 to overtake Shantia Grace for No. 2.
Overtaking Jessica Dickson (2,402) for No. 1 is another story, though the difficulty level has slipped a bit, from impossible to impractical.
If 18th-ranked USF (11-4, 4-1 American Athletic Conference) was to play the minimum 15 remaining games on its slate, Williams would have to average 35.2 points the rest of the way to match Dickson. If the Bulls were to play 18 -- very conceivable with a nice AAC tournament run -- she would have to average 29.3.
And if they somehow squeezed out 20 more contests -- with a nice league tourney run and Sweet 16 appearance -- that average falls to 26.4.
Williams has scored 26 or more seven times already this season.
