Dunkley reinstated; signees Whitty, Mayes out

USF football released an updated roster on Wednesday, showing that junior receiver Chris Dunkley has been reinstated to the team, with news that two incoming freshmen -- defensive end Eric Mayes and cornerback Darius Whitty -- will not be with the team this season.

Dunkley, suspended since an arrest in September for domestic violence battery, had resolved his legal issues this spring after completing a pre-trial diversion program for first-time offenders. The transfer from Florida has begun working out informally with his teammates and will help the Bulls at receiver, where two of the Bulls' top receivers from previous seasons, Sterling Griffin and Terrence Mitchell, are transferring out.

No reason was given for Mayes and Whitty not reporting for the start of summer classes this week, but it's reasonable to think there are academic issues. The remaining members of Willie Taggart's first recruiting class are listed on the roster, though numbers have not been assigned yet.
