Freshman DB Armunz Mathews leaves USF
The Bulls lost their second underclassman since the end of the regular season when freshman DB Armunz Mathews announced Monday via Twitter he's leaving.
Whether Mathews' exit is related to the Bulls' coaching change is unclear. "At the end of the day I have to do what's best for me," wrote Mathews, who redshirted this past season.
Mathews' announcement comes roughly two weeks after MLB Cecil Cherry announced he will transfer to Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Miss.
A consensus three-star recruit from Tallahassee North Florida Christian, Mathews was a four-time all-state selection, earning Class 2A first-team honors as a senior.
The departures give new Bulls coach Charlie Strong a couple more scholarships in addition to the 13 being vacated by seniors. More are sure to open up via the roster turnover that typically accompanies a new coaching regime.
