Full disclosure: My latest AP ballot

The glaring dilemma this week involves Florida and Michigan: Just how far do you drop a team that loses narrowly to a high-quality foe? What if (in Florida's case) that defeat occurs on the road? Or what if (in Michigan's case) it occurs in the Twilight Zone?

Because no manual exists to guide voters through such pitfalls, we must lean on conscience and common sense. On my ballot, neither the Gators nor Wolverines fell by more than six spots.

Speaking of Michigan-Michigan State, I'll gladly continue absorbing flak for keeping Sparty at No. 2. So what if it has nary a style point to its name? Know what MSU does have? An unblemished record.

Elsewhere, I mildly re-calibrated things near the top to accommodate Utah (up from No. 8 to No. 5). I bid farewell to Ole Miss, Northwestern and Boise State; brought Cal back into the fold (its only loss was to Utah); and welcomed in Toledo and Texas Tech (lone defeats to TCU and Baylor).
