Full disclosure: My latest AP football ballot
With a series of miscues, none worse than former Sickles High star Ray Ray McCloud's goal-line gaffe, Clemson pushed the nerves of its fan base and conviction of pollsters to the edge.
While I had no problem keeping the Tigers atop my ballot after winning -- albeit with a lackluster offensive display -- at Auburn at night in Week 1, I can't in good conscience ignore Saturday's 30-24 squeaker against a Sun Belt Conference team (Troy) coming off a 4-8 season.
As a result, Alabama is my new No. 1. The Tide may have performed woefully against Western Kentucky by Nick Saban's standards, but he has a pretty high bar. 'Bama still won by four touchdowns.
Clemson falls to No. 4.
Elsewhere, there's not much change. Oklahoma State falls out of my top 25 after its controversial loss to Central Michigan (The Cowboys never should have allowed it to come down to the final play.) and Arkansas enters after its overtime triumph at TCU.
For the locals, no USF...yet. But stay tuned if they win impressively next week at Syracuse.
2. Ohio State
12. Texas A&M
16. Notre Dame
18. Michigan State
23. Ole Miss
