Hipsher leaving Bulls to join father's staff
Andy Hipsher, who has spent the last four seasons on Stan Heath's coaching staff at USF, is leaving the Bulls and will be announced Tuesday as the associate head coach on his father Dan's staff at Texas-Pan American.
Andy Hipsher, who spent his first two seasons at USF as director of basketball operations, has been a full-time assistant the last two seasons. Dan Hipsher, who was Heath's associate head coach from 2007-09, took over at UTPA after spending the last four seasons as Anthony Grant's top assistant at Alabama.
"No. 1, I think he's a good coach and knows what he's doing, and No. 2, he's family, so at least somebody will have my back," Dan said by phone Monday night. "He's got a good feel for the motion that we do, and he's done the recruiting, the individual workouts, so it's a good step for him and a good opportunity."
Andy, who helped the Bulls put together the best recruiting class in Heath's tenure with the Bulls this past season, played as a guard on his father's team at Akron from 1999-2004.
