Hoosiers opt out of USF series, will play FIU instead
The USF football team's two-game home-and-home series with Big Ten foe Indiana is off.
USF confirmed the Hoosiers have excercised their buyout option on the series, which was slated to begin in 2015 in Tampa and conclude the following year in Bloomington. The buyout will cost IU $500,000, USF athletic department spokesman Brian Siegrist said.
The news arrives the same day FIU announced it has agreed to a home-and-home series with the Hoosiers. The Panthers travel to Bloomington on Sept. 12, 2015 -- the same day the Bulls were to host IU.
The Bulls and Hoosiers agreed to the series in the 2006, with the games initially slated for 2009 and '11. They were postponed in part to allow USF to squeeze in a four-year series (2010-13) with Miami.
