Luke Borders named AAC Player of the Week

Bulls junior DH Luke Borders, who hit three home runs as USF took two of three games at East Carolina over the weekend, was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Borders, who homered in each game of the series, hit .389 last week in four total contests including a loss at No. 1 Florida. At ECU, he finished 7-for-14 with seven RBIs and a stolen base.

His three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Saturday propelled USF to a 5-1 triumph, and his solo homer in the sixth on Sunday stood up as the game-winning RBI in a 6-5 triumph.

As a result of its series triumph at ECU, the Bulls (23-28, 8-13), who host Jacksonville on Tuesday, conceivably could play their way into the No. 5 seed at next week's conference tournament in Clearwater. USF hosts Connecticut (29-22, 11-9) in its final conference series of the regular season starting Friday.
