Instead of plunging into treacherous non-conference waters, Orlando Antigua's first USF team will wade carefully, as to avoid getting in over its head.

For a club that clearly will need time to get its sea legs, maybe that's a good thing.

N.C. State, Seton Hall, FSU and Alabama -- sturdy but hardly immovable major-conference foes -- highlight USF's 2014-15 non-conference schedule released Tuesday. Of those four, only the Seton Hall contest (Dec. 18) is at home; the FSU game (Dec. 20) will be played in Sunrise as part of the MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic.

In all, the Bulls will play 13 non-conference games, including a Nov. 14 season opener at home against Division II Flagler. Of the 12 Division I foes, only two -- N.C. State and FSU -- had top-55 RPI rankings entering postseason play last March.

Of the 11 Bulls players eligible for the upcoming season, only three -- PG Anthony Collins, SG Corey Allen Jr. and F Chris Perry -- have appeared in a Division I game. Maryland transfer Roddy Peters must sit out the 2014-15 season.

The Bulls should be better suited for what shapes up as a more formidable 2015-16 non-conference slate. A neutral-site game against Kentucky is in the works for November 2015, but USF officials indicated Tuesday no contract for the game has been signed.
