One for the thumb: Perry honored again

For the fifth time this season, USF 6-foot-8 1/2 freshman Chris Perry has been named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.

But his latest award-caliber effort may have trumped the previous four.

The Bartow High alumnus emerged from a mini-slump to total 31 points and 15 rebounds in games against SMU (78-71 win) and Cincinnati (45-41 loss).

A 50.7-percent free throw shooter entering the week, Perry finished a collective 7-for-8 from the stripe in those contests, and went 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the floor. Both performances were delivered off the bench.

Perry enters Wednesday night's game at UCF as the conference's scoring leader among freshmen (9.6 ppg). Here are his four previous rookie-of-the-week efforts:

Nov. 11: 14 points, seven rebounds, two blocks in season-opening win vs. Tennessee Tech

Dec. 9: Consecutive double-doubles in victories against George Mason, Alabama*

Dec. 23: 10 points, nine rebounds in win vs. FGCU; 14 points, nine rebounds in loss to Mississippi State

Dec. 30: 18 points, four rebounds, two blocks in win at Bradley

*-also named CBS Sports' Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Week
