Report: Big 12 to hold video conference with USF, others
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby will conduct video conferences with 17 schools that have expressed interest in being considered as an expansion candidate, according to an ESPN report released Friday.
The report, citing unnamed sources, mentions USF among the 17. Last week, the Times reported USF officials sent Bowlsby a two-page letter -- dated July 29 -- outlining why they feel the school would be an ideal Big 12 candidate.
Nine of the American Athletic Conference's 11 other schools also are mentioned in the report, with Tulsa and Navy the lone exclusions.
Sources also said it's "becoming less and less likely" the league will expand to 14 teams. The most likely scenario is the Big 12 stays at 10 teams or adds only two schools for a 12-team league.
USF officials have remained silent in their pursuit of Big 12 membership, refusing to comment publicly on their mostly-covert strategy.
