USF dismisses women's golf coach
USF women's golf coach Marci Kornegay, who couldn't build momentum in the program following a Big East title four years ago, has been dismissed after nine seasons.
The Bulls have finished no higher than third at the American Athletic Conference tournament the last three years.
"We thank Coach Kornegay for her dedication and significant contributions to our golf program and department, and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors," athletic director Mark Harlan said in a USF news release.
“After a very deliberate evaluation, I made the decision that our women’s golf program needs new leadership. We expect to achieve excellence in all of our sports, which includes competing for conference and national championships."
A four-year letter winner at Ole Miss, Kornegay's primary highlight with the Bulls occurred in '12, when USF reached the NCAA regionals after holding off Notre Dame by a stroke to win the Big East tourney.
Before its third-place finish at the conference championship in Palm Coast in mid-April, this year's team had finished no higher than sixth in any tournament.
