USF football lands series with Illinois in 2017-18

USF football has landed another home-and-home series with a Big Ten program, announcing games against Illinois in 2017 and 2018, which makes 10 games against Big Ten teams over the next six seasons.

The Bulls will play host to the Illini in Tampa in 2017, then will play in Champaign in 2018, and the series continues a strong trend of playing Big Ten programs. The Bulls open a series with Michigan State on Saturday in East Lansing, with the Spartans coming to Tampa in 2018; there are deals in place with Indiana (2015 and '16), Wisconsin (2014 and '17) and future Big Ten member Maryland (2014 and '15).

That works out to playing nearly half of the Bulls' 24 nonconference games in a six-year span against the Big Ten -- to this point, USF's only Big Ten opponent was a 2005 trip to Penn State.
