To prime you for the USF men's game tonight at No. 24 Connecticut, we've consolidated our advance stories and snippets into one convenient blog.
Here's our recent post from Coach Stan Heath's regular Monday afternoon press conference, where he said he's seeking more production from G Javontae Hawkins. Our USF-UConn preview capsule can be found here.
And a few more thoughts from Heath on tonight's contest, which the Bulls badly need to return to any NIT conversation:
Reflecting on Saturday's 10-point loss to Rutgers:
"We've got to regroup and bounce back. ... I watched the film really closely just to figure out what went wrong, and obviously the start of the game we just dug ourselves such a hole (15-2 deficit), and we expended a lot of energy to get back. I thought even after the first time-out in the second half we just seemed a little gassed. Then they made a little bit of a run and we tried to push back, and we made another run again too, but I just think the start of the game drained a lot of energy out of our basketball team."
On recent history against the Huskies:
"We've done very well against certain teams. Last year we split, and (in the 69-64 loss) we were up by 10 at halftime and we go to overtime. We could've won that game, we could've swept 'em last year. The year before that, I think we played 'em at home and went right down to the wire. ... Almost every time we've played up at UConn, it's either been right down to the wire or overtime games the last three times."
On Huskies senior G Shabazz Napier (17.7 ppg):
"You've just got to make him take hard shots as much as you can. You've got to hope sometimes he's gonna miss some of those plays that he gets. At the same time I think he's gonna do his thing...and you've got to try to make sure the other guys don't have huge games."
