USF's McMurray, Williams honored by AAC
USF freshman PG Jahmal McMurray, who totaled 38 points and nine assists in last week's triumphs against East Carolina and Memphis, has been named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
McMurray, who now has won the honor twice this season, had 21 points on 50-percent (7-for-14) shooting in Tuesday's 69-52 victory at ECU. Four days later, he totaled 17 points (13 in the second half) and added five assists in an 80-71 home triumph against Memphis.
Meantime, Bulls women's standout Courtney Williams, a Wooden Award candidate, was named the AAC's Women's Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Williams came a rebound shy of posting consecutive double-doubles last week, totaling 48 points and 19 boards against Louisville (67-50 loss) and Memphis (97-82 win).
McMurray, averaging 20.5 points in his last eight contests, currently ranks fifth in the American in scoring (15.7 ppg). With a minimum four games remaining, he stands 91 points shy of the Bulls' freshman scoring record (531) set by Dominique Jones in 2008. He needs only 15 to tie B.B. Waldon (455) for second on the list.
